A Summary of Our ATV Tour Experience

We start our tour at the start of the Wolford Trailhead, where your guide will conduct a safety briefing, answers any questions, as well as supply helmets and other equipment. During the group briefing, your guide will give some practical tips and train the group on how to operate their All-Terrain Vehicle. When everyone is prepared and ready to ride, the journey begins! Our ATVS are easy to ride and easy to learn, with features such as electric start, smooth power-bands, and extra pep. At High Country Tours we work to ensure a fun and exciting experience for all levels, with trips varying from 2 to 4 hours in length. We also have a variety of different rental options and experiences for riders who want to take in the scenic view or enjoy the ride. 

Our guides take into your account your wants and desires to craft an experience unique to you and your group. Whether it be in service of picturesque views and photo opts, or going full throttle and enjoying the ride, guided tours are designed to meet your needs and provide maximum experience. OUR ATVS

The majority of our ATVS are the Can-Am Outlander Max, an ATV designed specifically for off road, all-terrain trails with 48 horsepower, automatic transmission, independent front and rear suspension, and twenty-five-inch all-terrain tires. These ATVS are brand new, well made, and seat one driver and one passenger, and are strong and durable, able to withstand a large amount of weight without inhibiting performance. The Outlander Max also features a small storage compartment and rack for the additional storage of goods.

After a short safety orientation and training, expect to be taken away by all the natural beauty and views Colorado has to offer. As you ride through the Wolford Mountain Recreation Area, expect breathtaking views, and get away from busy hustle-bustle of daily life. Expect endless views of distant mountain where you can see out for miles, as well as the Wolford Reservoir, and deposits of cretaceous Ammonite and other fossils. When it comes to experiencing the Wolford Mountain Recreation Area, please communicate with your tour guide when it comes to how you want the tour to play out. With an abundance of photo opportunities there are many moments where you can stop and take in the view. However, if you’re seeking a fast-paced adventure racing through the trail, out guides can also accommodate for a more energizing experience.

Our tours are prepared to go out rain or shine, so come ready with the appropriate gear.

What To Bring

  • Required – Every Driver must bring their valid driver’s license. Passengers over 18 must bring their valid photo I.D. All legal guardians must bring their valid photo ID.
  • Required – Long pants and shoes
  • Required – Closed toe shoes such as sneakers or boots Required
  • A rain jacket/ rain gear and sun block
  • Eye protection 
  • Gloves
  • Bug or mosquito repellant
  • Closed toe shoes such as sneakers or boots

Scenic Highlights

The Wolford Mountain Recreation Area is subject to a host of breathtaking views, activities, and encapsulates the beautiful mountainous terrain and vistas characteristic of Colorado. With 120 miles of roads and designated routes, there is a large expanse to explore and take in. Additionally, the Wolford Mountain Recreation Area also houses the Wolford Mountain Reservoir, which dams Muddy Creek, and is a part of the Colorado River watershed. As you ride through the Wolford Mountain Recreation Area, you may also park your ATV and hike into the fossil site to catch a glimpse of the wide varieties of fossils and cretaceous ammonite, with species such as Placenticeras meeki and other marine invertebrates. Choose the 4-hour tour if you want to stop and hike through the fossil site.

Additional Info 

  • A credit card must be given to hold the reservation and that card will be charged for any damage that is caused by the participants. The tour must be paid for prior to departure
  • All passengers must be able to sit in the passenger’s seat (behind the driver) with their feet firmly on the floorboards and be able to hold on by themselves. Most passengers need to be at least 48 inches tall to do this.
  • Drivers must purchase a $15 liability insurance policy from our insurance company before beginning their journey. It is recommended that this be done prior to arrival. A link will be in the confirmation email.
  • Not recommended for pregnant riders.
  • Not recommended for riders with back problems.
  • Ask your doctor if this activity is right for you.

Cancellation 

For a full refund, please cancel your tour at least 24 hours in advance. Weather forecasts are very accurate 24-48 hours in advance. Our tours will go rain or shine, and you must pay for your reservation in full if you do not cancel at least 24 in advance of your tour time.
