The Intermediate Tour could be the best choice for you if you are more adventurous! It starts with instruction on how to operate the snowmobile. On a clear day, you can see the three tallest mountains in the Rockies! Make sure you ask your guide to stop at the Cocoa Hut to enjoy some free hot chocolate and let the kids ride the kiddie snowmobiles. Please know that you control the speed of your snowmobile – if you have any concerns you may stop your snowmobile and your guide will happily come to help you.
As you climb above the tree line and explore your surroundings, you’ll be surrounded by some of the tallest peaks to be found in the world.
LEADVILLE HISTORIC MINING DISTRICT
This area is part of the Leadville Historic Mining District, so you will also get a bird’s-eye view of Colorado’s history of precious metals mining.
If you look closely, you might find abandoned mines, ghost towns, and piles of mine tailings that shape the surrounding landscape.

Mountain Top Action Tour
TRAIL DESCRIPTION
This guided tour has two options: approximately two hours or approximately three hours.
You’ll begin at our Birdseye Outpost, which is located about 16 miles South of Copper Mountain Resort and situated at a breath-stealing altitude of 10,000 feet.
Your guide will train you on the operation of your snowmobile before ascending Prospect Mountain, topping out at over 12,600 feet!
Experience breathtaking views of Leadville’s Historic Mining District, the Continental Divide, the three tallest mountains in the Rockies, and many mountains over 14,000 feet once you reach the top of the mountain.
Due to the more technical riding skills required on this Keystone, Colorado snowmobile tour, usually only single riders are allowed on this tour.
However, we will sometimes allow experienced drivers to take a passenger. This is decided on a case-by-case basis, so call us for more information if you’re interested in this option.

TRAIL DESCRIPTION
The Heeney Outpost Action Snowmobile Tour is a faster paced ride than the Heeney Scenic Tour. Both of these tours take you up the mountain, rewarding you with expansive views that you only get with an elevated overlook.
First, you will receive instruction on how to operate the snowmobile at the beginning of the tour. Next, you will head out onto the the trail that takes you up the mountain.
During your tour, your guide will stop you at great places to take pictures and at the Cocoa Cabin so you can warm up, sipping hot chocolate while overlooking the Eagles Nest Wilderness. Also, let your guide know if you want to open up the throttle on the 3/4 mile long track. You can also let your kids ride the kiddie snowmobiles at this stop.

Keystone Colorado Snowmobile Tour for Experienced Riders
WHO CAN RIDE?
Beginners are still welcome on this tour, so if you can learn to ride fairly quickly, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy these mountains like a pro!
Drivers must have a valid driving learner’s permit or driver’s license.
Adults eighteen or over need to have a valid driver’s license. This tour is typically limited to drivers only, as the two types of snowmobiles we normally offer are not configured for passengers.
We do offer limited exceptions on a case-by-case basis, so give us call if you want to take a passenger on this tour. If you have kids or less experienced riders, check out our Family and Beginner Tours, which have great options for families.

The most important part of any adventure is getting back home so you can tell everyone what a great time you had.
Guides from High Country Tours will take the time to show you how to properly operate your snowmobile and then give you time to get used to driving before heading out.
Every tour is “dry” because operating a snowmobile under the influence of drugs or alcohol is illegal and unsafe.
Our guides will allow you to go at a pace that is comfortable for you, so never go faster than your comfort zone, or take on terrain that you don’t feel safe tackling.
It’s ultimately up to you to handle the snowmobile safely.
A BIT OF TRAIL ETIQUETTE
Snowmobiling is a community activity and our tours operate under a special Bureau of Land Management permit, so respecting your fellow riders and the environment is extremely important.
Here are some common tips that will help keep you and everyone else safe:
- Keep to the right side of the trail
- Give trail groomers the right of way
- Reduce your speed when there is oncoming traffic
- Give uphill riders right of way when you are traveling downhill
- Slow down and give the right of way to any non-motorized traffic like hikers or skiers
- Always report illegal operation out on the trails
- Slow down when passing a parked snowmobile on the trail.
- Obey any posted speed limits and other trail signs
ABOUT LEADVILLE, COLORADO
In the United States, Leadville is actually the highest incorporated city and the second highest incorporated municipality.
Nestled into the Rocky Mountains at elevation of 10,152 feet, this former silver mining town lies near the headwaters of the Arkansas River.
Nearby is the Historic Leadville Mining District that contains many structures, mines, sites and artifacts from its mining era. In the late 1800s, Leadville was actually the second most populous city in Colorado.
